Program Note:

Sometimes “later” is a long time, but we still say it. Leaving, and coming back, are a part of so many aspects of life. Each year passing by, as people grow from children to teenagers to adults. People leave their families to move and study or find work. Some don’t leave their families, but are still leaving their households, as they are no longer under their parents’ care. Whether we find new families or stay with the old, we always say some variant of the phrase: “I Will See You Later.”

This piece is dedicated to Stan Smith, as a thank you for teaching me more than I could ever even use about composition and harmony. The harmony in this piece is based off of a technique Stan taught me, using simple two part contrapuntal writing to build thick colorful textures.
